We have created a new way to try to keep all our customers updated of the progress of the golf course and its current condition.
The time of year that we give thanks to all that we have in our lives. WE here at Aberdeen GC are thankful for the patronage that you all show us every day. We hope that the dedicated work that each and every member of staff puts into the clubs daily operations goes towards your goals of enjoying "The Scottish Golf Experience".
This past season from an agronomic stand point was a nice surprise from Mother Nature, we wish it could be like that every year. We were able to make some nicenew additions to the the golf course with the break in the weather, we hope you noticed the changes. We added a bunker on #1 green and 2 bunkers on #16 green. While not 100% in play they provide a nice clean look and took away some of the thick native areas that many golf balls ended up in. Thus maintaining the hazard but easier to play the hole.
Some new tees were tucked away in some areas that most will not play, but for those that do, they will provide amuch different look and a feel to play the hole. Even if the tee blocks are not on these new tees, feel free to play them anyway.
A new range tee for the use in winter has been constructed, it will have a rye grass top, this will be ready for the 2015 winter season. The reason for its construction, was the need to protect the zoysia tee box through non growing times of the year, and it helped the club remove the range mats( that according to all no one wants to use). Please bare with us while we wait for that range area to be ready for use.
On a course note, we will open fairways when we can, please remember that the zoysia does not grow this time of year and is not pulling in moisture which in turns keeps the ground wetter than normal. Sometimes its the price we pay for better conditions year round.
The greens were aerifed in September, and we made the decision to not do them again the rest of the year to save a better putting surface. The greens will be done twice early March prior to the seasons start.
Happy Holidays to one and all, lets hope December is a better golfing month than November!
Well , what a winter we are having. Not much golf being played. We shall see how much damage the winter and the snow will do to the greens and the course when the snow finally melts out.
The crew has been keeping busy repairing equipment for the upcoming season. Items like tee blocks and ball washers have been cleaned and where needed painted. Planning for the seasons activities have almost been done, when to aerify, how much sand to order for bunkers etc.
We have a couple of the new bunkers to finish off, we took our time adding just small amounts of sand at a time to allow compaction of the sand. The new tees that were constructed in the fall have zoysia turf on them and we will seed the banks this spring. These all should be open by the middle to end of summer.
Stay warm! The spring will be here soon, well lets hope so.
